Alice Jarry-Girard

Alice Jarry-Girard is professor Design and Computation Arts aan Concordia University. Ze bekleedt de Research Chair in Critical Practices in Materials and Materiality, is directeur van het Milieux Institute Speculative Life Biolab, en co-directeur van Hexagram, International Network dedicated to Research-Creation in Media Arts, Design, Technology and Digital Culture. Als kunstenaar-onderzoeker is ze gespecialiseerd in plaatsgebonden werken, kunst-wetenschapspraktijken en sociaal-ecologisch design. Haar onderzoek laat esthetische en politieke vraagstukken kritisch inwerken op materiële productie. Met een focus op reststoffen en actieve biomaterialen/composieten voor de gebouwde omgeving en de kunsten onderzoekt Jarry hoe materialiteit, betrokken in transformatieprocessen met plek, technologie en gemeenschappen, de opkomst van veerkrachtige sociaal-ecologische relaties kan uitlokken. Haar werk werd internationaal getoond in het Centre Georges Pompidou, het Centre Culturel Canadien-Parijs, SAT, MUTEK, het Planétarium de Montréal, Vox Centre de l'image Contemporaine, de Biënnale Nemo, het Leonardo Da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology, de Digital Arts Biennial en de Device_Art Triënnale, onder andere.

Alice Jarry-Girard is professor of Design and Computation Arts at Concordia University. She is Research Chair in Critical Practices in Materials and Materiality, Director of the Milieux Institute Speculative Life Biolab, and Co-Director of Hexagram, International Network dedicated to Research-Creation in Media Arts, Design, Technology and Digital Culture. As an artist-researcher, she specializes in site-specific works, art-science practices and socio-environmental design. Her research brings concerns about aesthetics, and politics to bear critically upon material production. Focusing on residual matter and active biomaterials/composites for the built environment and the arts, Jarry examines how materiality, engaged in processes of transformation with site, technology, and communities, can provoke the emergence of resilient socio-environmental relations. Her works have been presented internationally at Centre George Pompidou, Centre Culturel Canadien-Paris, SAT, MUTEK, Planétarium de Montréal, Vox Centre de l'image Contemporaine, Biennale Nemo, Leonardo Da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology, Digital Arts Biennial, and Device_Art Triennale, among other locations.
