David Chavalarias

David Chavalarias is onderzoeksdirecteur bij het CNRS-lab Center for Social Analysis and Mathematics (CAMS) en hoofd van het Complex Systems Institute of Paris Ile-de-France. Hij bestudeert sociale en cognitieve dynamiek, zowel vanuit modellerings- als data-mining-perspectief, met een interdisciplinaire aanpak geworteld in de cognitieve en complexe-systemenwetenschappen. Hij ontwierp verschillende macroscopen, digitale hulpmiddelen die zich verhouden tot het sociale zoals de microscoop tot het levende. Sommige van hun output bevindt zich op het raakvlak van kunst en wetenschap en werd getoond op verschillende internationale tentoonstellingen. Deze macroscopen, die sociale data van het web verzamelen, worden gebruikt om de impact van digitale media op onze democratieën te onderzoeken.

David Chavalarias is Director of Research at the CNRS lab Center for Social Analysis and Mathematics (CAMS) and is the head of the Complex Systems Institute of Paris Ile-de-France. He studies social and cognitive dynamics, both from the modeling and data-mining perspective, with an interdisciplinary approach grounded in cognitive and complex systems sciences. He has designed several macroscopes, digital tools that are to the social what the microscope is to the living. Some of their output are at the interface between art and science and have been displayed in several international exhibitions. Harvesting social data from the web, those macroscopes are used to investigate the impacts of digital media on our democracies.
