Dr. Edward Akintola Hubbard

Dr. Edward Akintola Hubbard is antropoloog, kunstenaar en curator wiens praktijk experimentele etnografie verkent als hedendaagse artistieke methodologie. Werkend over fotografie, bewegend beeld, installatie, curatorschap en schrijven heen, onderzoekt hij archieven, creolisering, populaire cultuur, herinnering en de politiek van representatie. Hij is medeoprichter en artistiek directeur van DARKMATTER Collective, waar hij onderzoeksgedreven tentoonstellingen, publieksprogramma's en artistiek onderzoek ontwikkelt op het snijvlak van hedendaagse kunst, sociaal onderzoek en publieke pedagogiek. Hubbard behaalde een doctoraat in antropologie aan Harvard University en doceerde meer dan twee decennia aan Harvard University, New York University, Universiteit Utrecht, de University of the West Indies en de Willem de Kooning Academie. Zijn curatoriale projecten omvatten het IMPAKT Festival, Eye Filmmuseum en het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, waarmee hij artistieke praktijk in dialoog brengt met antropologie, media, design en performance via collaboratieve, veldgebonden onderzoeksvormen.

Dr. Edward Akintola Hubbard is an anthropologist, artist and curator whose practice explores experimental ethnography as a contemporary artistic methodology. Working across photography, moving image, installation, curating and writing, he investigates archives, creolisation, popular culture, memory and the politics of representation. He is Co-founder and Artistic Director of DARKMATTER Collective, where he develops research-driven exhibitions, public programmes and artistic research at the intersection of contemporary art, social inquiry and public pedagogy. Hubbard holds a PhD in Anthropology from Harvard University and has taught for more than two decades at Harvard University, New York University, Utrecht University, the University of the West Indies and Willem de Kooning Academy. His curatorial projects include the IMPAKT Festival, Eye Filmmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, bringing artistic practice into dialogue with anthropology, media, design and performance through collaborative, field-based forms of research.
