Florian Schneider

Florian Schneider is oprichtend directeur van het Institute for Creativity aan de University of Galway, Ierland, waar hij sinds 2024 een voltijds professoraat bekleedt. Sinds 2022 is hij voorzitter van de Society for Artistic Research (SAR), en sinds maart 2024 wetenschappelijk coördinator van PACESETTERS, een door Horizon Europe gefinancierd onderzoeksproject dat artistiek onderzoek centraal stelt in zijn methodologie. Daarnaast is hij gastprofessor Kunsttheorie en Documentaire Praktijken aan de Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), waar hij van 2014 tot 2021 departementshoofd was en sinds 2006 doceert en artistiek onderzoek verricht.

Schneider begon zijn carrière als filmmaker, waarbij hij verschillende langspeelfilm-essayfilms produceerde en regisseerde voor de Duits-Franse televisiezender ARTE. Florian Schneider is the founding director of the Institute for Creativity at the University of Galway, Ireland, where he has held a full professorship since 2024. Since 2022, he has served as President of the Society for Artistic Research (SAR), and since March 2024, as Scientific Coordinator of PACESETTERS, a Horizon Europe-funded research project that places artistic research at the core of its methodology. He is also Visiting Professor of Art Theory and Documentary Practices at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he served as Head of Department from 2014 to 2021 and has taught and conducted artistic research since 2006.

Schneider began his career as a filmmaker, producing and directing several feature-length essay films for the German-French television channel ARTE. His engagement with the contemporary art world has included contributions to and participation in major international exhibitions and platforms, including Documenta X, the Vienna platform of Documenta 11, Manifesta 7 in Trento, the 7th Gwangju Biennale, the 6th Taipei Biennale, and the Berlin Documentary Forum at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in 2010 and 2012. As an artist, he has presented his work at institutions including Kiasma in Helsinki, MACBA in Barcelona, Tate Modern in London, and Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
