Frank Theys

Frank Theys is filosoof, kunstenaar en filmmaker, gevestigd in Brussel en Amsterdam. Zijn artistieke werk strekt zich uit van experimentele film tot media-installatie, documentaire en performance, en getuigt van een aanhoudend onderzoek naar de relatie tussen nieuwe technologieën, samenleving en toekomstscenario's. Zijn werk werd wereldwijd getoond, ontving een tiental internationale prijzen en nominaties, en bevindt zich in collecties zoals die van MoMA (NY) en het Centre National de la Cinématographie (Parijs). Zijn documentaire Technocalyps blijft een referentiewerk over de eschatologische aspiraties rond transhumanisme. Hij was medeoprichter van Argos, Brussels centrum voor mediakunst, en richtte het Commons Lab op bij de Waag Society (Amsterdam). Hij doceerde en gaf gastcolleges aan meer dan 30 universiteiten en hogescholen wereldwijd. Hij is verbonden aan het Centrum Leo Apostel aan de VUB (Brussel), waar hij een transdisciplinaire praktijk ontwikkelt tussen kunst, wetenschap en samenleving, momenteel het onderwerp van een aankomend boek en tentoonstelling.

Frank Theys is a philosopher, artist, and filmmaker based in Brussels and Amsterdam. His artistic work ranges from experimental film to media installation, documentary and performance, tracing a sustained inquiry into the relationship between new technologies, society, and future scenarios. His work has been shown worldwide, has received around a dozen international awards and nominations, and is held in collections including MoMA (NY) and the Centre National de la Cinématographie (Paris). His documentary Technocalyps remains a reference work on the eschatological aspirations surrounding transhumanism. He co-founded Argos, Brussels' centre for media art, and founded the Commons Lab at the Waag Society (Amsterdam). He has taught and guest-lectured at more than 30 universities and colleges worldwide. He is affiliated with the Center Leo Apostel at the VUB (Brussels), where he develops a transdisciplinary practice between art, science, and society, currently the subject of a forthcoming book and exhibition.
