Isabel Fredeus

Isabel Fredeus is een in Antwerpen gevestigde kunstenaar. Ze werkt met installaties, sculpturen, video en interventies. Fredeus werkt procesgericht. In haar praktijk houdt ze zich vooral bezig met natuurlijke processen, fysische wetten en de symboliek die ze voortbrengen. Haar werken verouderen, herleven, vervallen en transformeren doorheen de tijd, terwijl ze een specifiek biologisch of chemisch proces tonen. Fredeus beschouwt haar atelier als een plek om diverse methodologieën te verkennen, waar ironie hand in hand gaat met spiritualiteit en wetenschappelijke benaderingen geconfronteerd worden met poëtische lagen. Isabel Fredeus behaalde een Master in de Beeldende Kunsten en een Master of Research in Art & Design aan Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerpen. Haar werk werd getoond bij Gr_Und, Berlijn (DE), Sainte Anne Gallery, Parijs (FR), Intershop, Leipzig (DE), Extra City Kunsthal (BE), Middelheim Museum (BE), M HKA (BE), Felix de Boeck & Eco museum (BE), Benzeholz (CH) en Rubenshuis (BE). In 2015 was ze artist-in-residence bij Villa Ruffieux residence, Sierre (CH). Ze won de De Lucas Award 2015, uitgereikt door Sint Lucas Hogeschool, Antwerpen (BE). Ze won de Middelheim Museum Young Artist Prize 2018, uitgereikt door de Middelheim Promotors, Antwerpen (BE). Ze won ook de publieksprijs met haar sculptuur 'Under The Weather'. Momenteel werkt Fredeus als onderzoeker aan de VUB Brussel (BE), gastdocent aan Luca School of Arts Gent (BE) en wordt ze vertegenwoordigd door Whitehouse Gallery Brussel (BE) en Sainte Anne Gallery, Parijs (FR).

Isabel Fredeus is an Antwerp-based artist. She works with installations, sculptures, video and interventions. Fredeus works process oriented. In her practice she is mainly occupied with natural processes, physical laws and the symbolism they create. Her works age, revive, decline and transform in time, while presenting a specific biological or chemical process. Fredeus considers her atelier as a place to explore various methodologies where irony goes hand in hand with spirituality and scientific approaches are confronted with poetic layers. Isabel Fredeus obtained a Master in Fine Arts and a Master of Research in Art & Design at St Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp. Her work was shown at Gr_Und, Berlin (DE), Sainte Anne Gallery, Paris (FR), Intershop, Leipzig (DE), Extra City Kunsthal (BE), Middelheim Museum (BE), M KHA (BE), Felix de Boeck & Eco museum (BE), Benzeholz (CH) and Rubenshuis (BE).
