Michael Sedbon

Michael Sedbon is interactieontwerper, kunstenaar en onderzoeker in de life sciences. Zijn werk verkent digitale netwerktechnologieën en systemen via hun convergentie met niet-menselijke intelligentie (planten, eencellige organismen, insecten, bacteriën) in het licht van het Infocene — ons huidige culturele tijdperk waarin informatie de kracht is met de grootste impact op menselijke samenlevingen en omgevingen. Hij verkent de relatie tussen kunstmatige en biologische intelligentie door biocomputers te bouwen die organismen manipuleren via regels geïmplementeerd in soft-, hard- en wetware, waarbij hij zowel kijkt naar hoe biologie de informatica conceptueel beïnvloedt, als naar de impact van computationeel denken op ecosystemen. Hij ontving de Bio Arts and Design Award en won een Falling Walls-prijs. Hij behaalde masterdiploma's in Interaction Design Communication aan de UAL en in Synthetic and Systems Biology aan het CRI in Parijs. Voordien leidde hij het Cyber Synthetic Biology-onderzoek bij OXMAN in New York.

Michael Sedbon is an Interaction Designer, artist and life science researcher. His work explores digital networked technologies and systems through their convergence with non-human intelligence (plants, unicellular organisms, insects, bacteria) in regard to the Infocene — our current cultural era where information is the force having the biggest impact on human societies and environments. He explores the relationship between Artificial and Biological intelligence by making bio-computers that manipulate organisms through rules implemented in soft, hard and wetware, looking both at how biology influences computer science conceptually and at the impact of computational thinking on ecosystems. He has been the recipient of the Bio Arts and Design Award and a Falling Walls winner. He holds master's degrees in Interaction Design Communcation from the UAL and in Synthetic and Systems Biology from the CRI in Paris. He previously led Cyber Synthetic Biology research at OXMAN in New York.
