Prof. Thomas Hertog

Prof. Thomas Hertog (KU Leuven) is een gerenommeerd theoretisch fysicus en kosmoloog. Hij behaalde zijn doctoraat aan de University of Cambridge en was research fellow aan de University of California in Santa Barbara, en aan CERN, Genève. Momenteel is Hertog directeur van het KU Leuven Gravity Institute, een multidisciplinaire onderzoeksgemeenschap die het universum bestudeert via theorie en waarnemingen van zwaartekrachtgolven. Als gevierd wetenschapscommunicator cureerde Hertog verschillende tentoonstellingen waarin wetenschap en kunst met elkaar verweven worden. Hertog is auteur van On the Origin of Time (Random House, 2023), een internationale bestseller waarin hij de baanbrekende theorie beschrijft over de kwantumoorsprong van het universum, die hij ontwikkelde samen met zijn mentor en collega, wijlen Stephen Hawking.

Currently Hertog is director of the KU Leuven Gravity Institute, a multidisciplinary research community that studies the universe through theory and observations of gravitational waves.
