Ralph Dum

Ralph Dum behaalde een doctoraat in de fysica. Zijn vroege werk richtte zich op onderzoek in de kwantumfysica. Hij verrichtte onderzoek onder meer in de VS (JILA/NIST, Boulder, CO en Stonybrook University, NY) en Europa (École Normale Supérieure in Parijs, Oxford University, Universiteit Innsbruck).
Na zijn intrede bij de Europese Commissie was hij een drijvende kracht achter Europa's eerste programma's rond kwantumcomputing. Hij lanceerde ook het programma "Global Systems Science", waarin complexe-systemenwetenschap wordt toegepast op mondiale uitdagingen zoals klimaatverandering, urbanisatie en financiële crises.
Zijn persoonlijke passie voor de kunsten bracht hem ertoe het STARTS-programma op te richten (Innovation at the nexus of Science, Technology, and the ARTS). STARTS stimuleert samenwerkingen tussen kunstenaars en onderzoekers om nieuwe vormen van innovatie en publieke betrokkenheid te inspireren.
Vandaag zet Ralph zijn unieke combinatie van wetenschappelijke expertise, ervaring in publiek beleid en expertise in het verbinden met de kunstwereld in om instellingen te adviseren.

Ralph Dum holds a Ph.D. in physics. His early work focused on research in quantum physics. He conducted research among others in the US (JILA/NIST, Boulder, CO and Stonybrook University, NY) and Europe (Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, Oxford University, University of Innsbruck).
After joining the European Commission, he was a driving force behind Europe's first quantum computing programs. He also initiated the ""Global Systems Science"" program applying complex systems science to global challenges like climate change, urbanism, and financial crises.
His personal passion for the arts led him to initiate the STARTS Program (Innovation at the nexus of Science, Technology, and the ARTS). STARTS fosters collaborations between artists and researchers to inspire new forms of innovation and public engagement.
