Wim Van Criekinge

Wim Van Criekinge is professor bioinformatica en computationele genomica aan de Universiteit Gent, en medeoprichter en aandeelhouder van Wintercircus. Opgeleid als scheikundig ingenieur met een doctoraat in de Moleculaire Biologie, richtte hij BIOBIX op (lab voor computationele genomica) en NXTGNT (sequeneerfaciliteit), waar zijn team als eerste whole-epigenome sequencing op schaal uitvoerde voor diagnostiek. Daarnaast is hij serieel ondernemer: zijn ventures mondden uit in overnames (Genohm, NXTDX) en beursintroducties (Devgen, MDxHealth), en met Jan Van den Berghe richtte hij het Novalis Biotech-fonds op, dat in een twintigtal life science-startups investeert. In 2024 publiceerde hij zijn eerste boek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Genome.

Wim Van Criekinge is professor of bioinformatics and computational genomics at Ghent University, and co-founder and shareholder of Wintercircus. Trained as a chemical engineer with a PhD in Molecular Biology, he founded and leads BIOBIX, the university's lab for computational genomics, and NXTGNT, its sequencing facility, where his team was first to run whole-epigenome sequencing at scale for diagnostic discovery. Alongside his academic work, he's a serial founder, with ventures ending in both acquisitions (including Genohm and NXTDX) and IPOs (Devgen, MDxHealth), and he co-founded the Novalis Biotech fund, which now invests in around 20 life science startups. In 2024 he published his first book, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Genome.
